Part 2: The Four Primary Lines on the Palm
Once you can read the gesture of a person's hand, you can move on to the four primary lines on the palm: the Heart Line, the Head Line, the Life Line and the Fate Line.
Once you can read the gesture of a person's hand, you can move on to the four primary lines on the palm: the Heart Line, the Head Line, the Life Line and the Fate Line.
The Heart Line
At the top of the palm, just below the fingers you will find the Heart Line, (see the diagram on this page) The Heart Line is sometimes referred to as the Love Line, and starts below the Pinky finger, and travels across the top of the palm, ending anywhere under the middle finger, or perhaps traveling all the way up and over the edge of the palm. In the Divine Hand Method, this line indicates a person's pattern of emotional expression. The heart line can be curved or straight, and it can be long or short.
A curved heart line is called the "compassionate heart line." People with this Heart Line tend to look for emotional connections first, then build trust with people from there.
A straight heart line is called the "pragmatic heart line." people with this Heart Line tend to open up emotionally only after trust has been established with a person.
Long Heart Lines are more grounded and tend to be based on tangible love languages.
Short Heart Lines are more transformative and tend to be based on more passionate love languages.

The Head Line
How do you process your thoughts? Your Head Line is a pretty reliable indicator of how your brain functions. The Head Line starts between your thumb and index finger, and goes across the middle of your palm, ending somewhere under your ring finger, or even all the way to the far edge of your palm. The Head Line can start in the same place as the Life Line (see the diagram) and be an "attached Head Line" or there can be a gap between the Head Line and the Life Line, a "detached Head Line." The Head Line can also be considered long or short, just like the Heart Line.
People with a Head Line attached to their Life Line have more of a tendency to think and make decisions that are influenced by life circumstances and the events that are swirling around them. On the positive side, this is great for ideas and concepts that are full of context and reasoning that considers all of the factors that are happening. On the challenging side, this can lead to emotional decisions, and irrationality.
People with a Head Line detached from their Life Line have more of a tendency to process ideas independently from the immediate circumstances. These are the folks who are great at keeping calm in emergencies, or who can make rational business decisions even when those decisions can be really tough. The challenge for these folks can be having their head in the clouds, or being so detached from reality that their thinking isn't actionable or applicable in the real world.
A short Head Line is associated with people who prefer to think quickly, and come up with ideas and decisions in short order, and prefer not to ruminate on ideas. This is very much like the "J" in the Meyer's Briggs (MBTI) personality test (the last letter)
A long Head Line is associated with folks who prefer to research, study, and take their time with ideas and decisions, very much like the "P" in the Meyer's Briggs.

The Life Line
One of the most common questions, and biggest worries people have regarding palm reading involves the meaning of the Life Line. I get so many questions about the life line in my palm readings: "Does my Life Line tell me how long I am going to live?" "What if I have a short life line?" What if I have a long life line?" My Life Line has an island on it!" "My Life Line has a break!"
The Life Line reveals patterns, not predictions. Even though the words "long life line" and "short life line" sound like "long life" and "short life," that is NOT what they mean. The length of the life line is NOT correlated with the length of a person's lifetime.
A Life Line that is long, extending around the pad of the thumb to the wrist is known as an "Old Soul Life Line." People with this type of life line tend to be interested in deeper ideas and more significant questions in life. These are folks who are here to complete their destiny, and learn karmic lessons, The challenge for these people can be in taking things too seriously, or in being caught up in the world's problems. These are the folks who teach us to appreciate the context and connection between things.
A Life Line that is short, ending somewhere along the pad of the thumb before reaching the wrist, is known as a "Young Soul Life Line." These are folks who are more carefree easy going. These folks are here to create karmic lessons, so they may not have to face immediate consequences for their actions, and they also might be less worried about the bigger picture. They teach us how to live in the moment.
The Fate Line
The Fate Line is a line that is highly variable on how it appears on the hand, if it is there at all. (That's right, not everyone has a fate line, and that's okay!) The Fate Line is associated with the way(s) a person can find meaning in life, and where they are learning the lessons that are important to their spiritual purpose.
If the Fate Line is separate from the Life Line, this is a person who is gifted with a lot of free will - meaning they must create their own lessons. They are more likely to be able to find meaning in any-and-everything they do.
If the Fate Line touches the Life Line, this is associated with a person who likely has a specific reason or purpose that will fulfill their lessons in life. They are more likely to have (or need to find) that passion or purpose in order to feel like their life has meaning.
As you look at your own Fate Line, you will most likely notice that your Fate Line is much more complex. The Fate Line has many other formations - which you can learn in my Introduction to Palmistry course: IntroToPalmistry.com
